Services

Individual Therapy
My focus has been helping adults and teens who are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationships, and substance abuse. Whether it’s helping men become more attuned with their feelings and purpose, guiding clients through life transitions and difficult moments, or helping young adults and teens to feel more confident in their direction, I believe in your potential for growth to develop more emotional self-awareness. Together, we help you work through stresses, relationship issues, and life transitions, enabling you to achieve positive and lasting change. I respect personal values, look for strengths and use a relational approach, with interventions backed by research.

Couples Therapy
Because emotions drive our behavior and shape our relationships. emotional security often feels threatened when conflict arises in relationships. When partners feel threatened and misunderstood, a negative cycle often occurs. My goal as an EFT trained therapist is to help you bring your negative cycle to your consciousness and then find a new, different, or a deeper way to connection.

Adolescents and Family
Working in school-based mental health for 8 years taught me so much about parenting and teen mental health. I offer a safe space for teens to identify stressors, process feelings, and solve problems. Often parents can make a huge impact just by altering their approach to how they parent — I enjoy guiding parents through that process! As a runner and parent myself, I also have a particular interest and experience with teens and who suffer from performance anxiety in sports and other arenas.

18 years of clinical experience including outpatient, acute inpatient, and school settings.
Wakefield grew up on a Bainbridge Island. He moved to Montana in 1990 to live in the mountains and go to college, earning a degree in English Literature from the University of Montana. He completed his Master of Social Work from Walla Walla University with an emphasis in clinical practice. His love of talking with people and his ability to roll up his sleeves and solve problems sparked an interest in becoming a mental health professional. Wakefield has a broad depth of experience. He has worked in acute inpatient behavioral health, supervised a school-based therapy program, and worked in private practice, earning “best mental health therapist” in Columbia Falls in 2023.
Early in his training, Wake realized the complex nature of mental health, so he considers it a privilege to work with people in unraveling their life concerns and reaching their goals. As a father of two, he understands the challenges with balancing life and wellness in today’s fast-paced culture. He takes a practical, client-centered approach and focuses on problem-solving and enhancing motivation with clients to ensure positive outcomes. He enjoys all things relational, including couples, family, and self. In his spare time, Wakefield likes to run, xc ski, and hang out with his partner and her dog.
